Welcome Message from Principal Amy O’Brien    

Welcome Back Mead School Students and Families!    

We hope you had a restful and productive summer and had many  opportunities to enjoy family, friends, get away a bit and do things for yourself.  We are all busy preparing Mead School for your return.      

Our first day of school is on Monday, August 28th. We have scheduled an  assembly for our students in the gym that will begin as soon as the buses are unloaded and all students have been grouped with their classroom teachers.  Our presenter is Casey Carle from Bubble Mania (, who will  be presenting an interactive program for all students to welcome them back. It  is our philosophy at Mead School to make sure kids feel that this is a positive  place where we work hard and have high expectations but that we also like to  have fun. Here at Mead School we are committed to providing a safe,  progressive learning environment that ensures students achieve their  maximum individual potential with the confidence to take intellectual risks and become curious, lifelong learners. Our first day of school assembly will be focused on the joy we can have here at school. We always look forward to our  first day of the new school year at Mead School!    

Our motto at Mead School continues to be that Mead School students have the  courage to Stay Safe, Show Respect and Try our Best. You will see us as a school even more focused on these expectations as we will be acknowledging  students who are “Caught Being Good” on a regular basis. To be successful,  this plan needs to be a partnership between home and school. Throughout the  year the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) team will send  updates and information about PBIS. We invite your comments, concerns and  ideas to make PBIS work at our school. We are also looking to have a parent  member on our PBIS Leadership team. Please contact me if you are  interested. The members of our PBIS Leadership team are: PBIS Teacher Coaches, Melissa Cook and Todd Howes. Administrators Amy O’Brien and  John Coppola. Staff members Jaime Cox, Nichole Kuna, Carolyn Keller,  Eugenie O’Callaghan. New to the leadership team this year will be James Chester and Sue Matican.

   Please support PBIS at Mead School by:  

● Reviewing the behavior expectation matrix that is in the Parent/Student  handbook and on our website.  

● Reading, then signing and returning the handbook sign off page,  

● Use the 3 Mead School expectations at home (Stay Safe, Show Respect,  Try our Best). 

● Providing positive reinforcement (acknowledging good choices with  compliments, and/or quality time) at home.  

● Sharing comments with or asking questions of PBIS team members 

As we are getting ready to begin the 2017-2018 school year we are without  active PTO officers. We are in need of a PTO President, Vice President,  Secretary and Treasurer. If any parent is willing to donate some time  bi-monthly to hold these offices please let us know.      

We are scheduled to have a Book Fair the week of September 11th and need parents to run it during the day and in the evenings of the 11th and 12th when we have our “Meet the Teacher” evenings.      

We are happy to report that we have additional parking at Mead School this  year. The new lower parking lot is expected to be complete and ready for use  when the new school year officially begins. Construction in the back of our  building for additional classrooms is not yet complete and will not be for the  first day of school. Expected completion is in October. Unfortunately this will  limit our space for outdoor recess as the safety of our students is our first  concern.
