The mission of Ansonia Public Schools is to provide a learning environment that challenges and motivates all students to attain high standards of achievement and reach maximum individual potential. In a partnership of mutual accountability with our community, parents, board of education and staff, we will prepare all students to become successful life-long learners in an ever-changing, technological and culturally diverse global society.

Dear Colleagues, Parents and Community Members,

In order to accomplish the mission/vision of the Ansonia Public Schools, the district has embarked on a multi-year initiative to develop comprehensive Pre-K-12 curriculum based on Connecticut’s Grade Level Expectations for the knowledge and skills students should achieve. The process has begun in language arts, mathematics and science and will continue in all content areas. You can see our “work in progress” by visiting this website. Curriculum is a “living document.” We will continue to develop, monitor and revise curriculum on an on-going basis as we work to increase student achievement by:

Strengthening Classroom Instruction by training and supporting all teachers and administrators in implementing “Research-based Effective Teaching Strategies.”

Differentiating Instruction and Using Culturally Responsive Texts to ensure that each student in Ansonia Public Schools will experience instruction that is planned to be engaging, relevant, and challenging for students who have various backgrounds, learning styles, interests and academic  needs.

Incorporating Reading and Writing Across All Curriculum to ensure that students develop critical literacy skills.

Embedding Information Technology into the Teaching and Learning Process to help students develop competency in locating, evaluating and communicating complex information.

Developing Positive Behavior Supports throughout our schools so that young people develop interpersonal skills necessary to become successful productive citizens.

Teachers and school leaders cannot do the critical work of strengthening our education system alone. We invite parents and community members to join us in our mission of educating all students to become successful and productive citizens. To learn how you can support your child’s learning and/or support the district improvement work, please speak to a teacher, administrator or member of the Parent Teacher Organization.

Sincerely,

Diane S. Conway, Assistant Superintendent
